CA19 Serbia and Montenegro: Transition with Organized Crime
(by Vladimir Gligorov)
wiiw Country Profiles No. 19, July 2003
DETAILS & BUY

Serbia and Montenegro (S&M) is the Union of these two states that has emerged from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. That is only the beginning of the constitutional development that may take some time to be finished. The final outcome is most likely to be two independent states. It is probably the European Union (EU) that is the most interested in the preservation of S&M - partly because it wants to minimize the number of small states as future members and partly because it is not ready to address the issue of Kosovo, which, it is believed, would immediately follow once S&M dissolves. (by Waltraut Urban)
wiiw China Report No. 2, December 2002
DETAILS & BUY

GDP increased by 7.9% in the first three quarters and is expected to reach 8% for the full year 2002. Growth was driven by both domestic and foreign demand. Chinese imports increased rapidly as well, supporting overall economic growth in the region. China¿s first year as a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) has obviously turned out a success. For the year 2003 we may expect the `first-round effect¿ of WTO losing impact and Chinese GDP growth to slow down...more

CR2002-1 Chinese economy drawn by domestic and external forces
(by Waltraut Urban)
wiiw China Report No. 1, October 2002
DETAILS & BUY

In the first half of 2002, the Chinese economy developed better than expected. The downward trend prevailing in the second half of 2001, due to the downswing of the world economy, has reversed and GDP rose by 7.8% in the first six months of the year as compared to 7.3% over the whole year 2001. Growth was driven by exports as well as domestic demand, in particular investment. For the second half of the year we expect the positive development to continue and thus GDP growth over the whole year 2002 to be higher than last year, probably reaching 7.7%....more
